BNR is proud to announce the immediate availability of our highly anticipated crackle tune for the GM LUV/LUJ 1.4T! (Gen 1 Cruze and all Sonic 1.4T)

This feature adds crackling/burbling sounds to your exhaust when lifting off the throttle above 3500RPM and coasting down in gear. The frequency and intensity of the sounds highly depend on your current engine speed during lift off and most importantly: YOUR EXHAUST SETUP. BNR will not attempt to modify the crackle tune to produce more or less crackles, or how they sound. Your exhaust will dictate all of this. Some cars will produce flames during the crackles, and some will not. Again this is dependent on your exhaust setup. The more open it is, the more chance of flames.

Running this feature will release a higher amount of heat and sound energy into the exhaust system. This can be detrimental to components such as oxygen sensors and mufflers, which can decrease their lifespan. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

There are a few requirements that must be met in order to request the crackle tune:

  • You MUST have a catless downpipe.
  • You SHOULD have a catless midpipe. Over time a catted midpipe may get damaged.
  • You SHOULD have a high performance cat-back. The crackle tune is not designed for factory cat-backs, and could damage components.
  • You may see a reduction in MPG as a result of the crackles. This cannot be helped and should be expected.
This tune update WILL damage catalytic converters, and potentially quieter (restrictive) mufflers.

This update will be sent as a separate file from your current tune, but will be built on top of your current tune. I.e. if you have a tune for 52LB fuel injectors, the crackle tune will be the exact same tune, but with added crackles.

To request the update, simply follow the same procedure as any other update, email [email protected] requesting the crackle tune to be added to your current tune. This update will be free for all current BNR tune customers using BNR autocals for email tuning. If you are not a current BNR customer, you can purchase a BNR tune right here on our website, and simple request the crackle tune in the "tune requests" box.

Here are a few clips of different customer's cars so you can get an idea of what it will sound like:
